Rehearsing the Intervention

A rehearsal is necessary before doing the intervention. Everyone who plans to participate in the intervention should attend. If a team member cannot physically attend the rehearsal, ask her to participate over a speakerphone. Or she could meet with you a couple of hours before the intervention to review details of the rehearsal. No one should go into an intervention without knowing exactly what to do.

Review the checklist with the detail person and make sure all tasks are complete. Call the treatment center and confirm your appointment. Be sure all financial arrangements are set. You want everything to be in place when the alcoholic arrives at the treatment center.

The rehearsal has four segments. The first segment is to edit and rehearse the letters. Each person reads his letter aloud while the group listens carefully to both tone and content. Following are seven considerations when editing letters:
